The Nike Doernbecher Freestyle Program celebrates an extraordinary milestone: 20 years of creativity, solidarity, and hope. Born from the collaboration with the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the project allows young patients to conceive and design their own sneakers, transforming their stories of courage into unique designs. The 2024 edition once again confirms the power of this program, offering a platform to six young talents, Connor, Ja’Kai, Jillian, Quin, Sophia, and Tima, who have brought to life personal and deeply meaningful creations.

Among the most touching models in the collection is the Air Jordan 6 Doernbecher, designed by Jillian Beagley. After facing a serious liver disease since childhood and a liver transplant at the age of 11, Jillian wanted to encapsulate a message of gratitude, rebirth, and love for sports in her sneaker. Today, a young athlete with a state basketball title, she has created a shoe that tells the story of her strength and her passion for life.

Her Air Jordan 6 stands out for its interchangeable patches, customizable toe boxes, and the handwritten “SPORTS ARE MY JOY” inscription—a true mantra that reflects the joy and determination with which she faces every challenge. The phrase “Give Life” stands out on the toe, a tribute to her donor and the gift of a second chance. Every detail is infused with her deepest message: the belief that each of us is “Pure Gold” when we stay true to ourselves.

As every year, the proceeds from the Doernbecher Freestyle Program will be used to support the Area of Greatest Need at the OHSU children’s hospital. Purchasing a sneaker from this collection means not only celebrating the creativity and resilience of the young designers but also contributing concretely to the improvement of pediatric care.
